What is an EPD
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a document that provides transparent and verified information about the environmental impacts of a product.
The environmental impacts of a product are calculated through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), with results presented in numerical form. When conducting an LCA and preparing an EPD, applicable standards and requirements must be followed. The EPD is reviewed by a third party and published in an EPD program, ensuring its credibility and reliability. EPDs have global validity and are recognized worldwide. Each EPD is valid for five years.

Who can create an EPD
Any manufacturer can create an EPD for their products.

Who can verify an EPD
EPDs can only be verified by individuals with the required qualifications and experience. Program operators ensure these qualifications and publish a list of authorized verifiers on their websites.

Independence in verification
An EPD verifier must be independent and cannot be involved in the preparation of the EPD they are reviewing.

Why is verification mandatory
An unverified environmental declaration is not an EPD but merely a summary of the life cycle analysis. Verification is, therefore, a mandatory step in the EPD process.
